We want to ensure we foster a safe, open, friendly space where everyone feels free to express their opinions on the issues that matter to them but always respecting other people in or around those conversations.
This is where we will be shining a light on a particular human rights issue. We will work to find common ground in these spaces, to burst bubbles and break down barriers by using the stories from people with lived experiences as a focus. Spotlights give us opportunity to grow more relationships and tell the human stories which exist beneath the mainstream media coverage on a particular issue.
The Gender Recognition Act (GRA) allowed trans people to legally change their name on their birth certificates. But, as trans rights have advanced globally, it has become clear that there are many problems with the legislation. Many say the process is overly invasive, humiliating and bureaucratic.
We heard from front line workers, charities working with campaigns to make change to these policies because of the human rights of the people in their care, we heard from migrants living in the UK whose lives have been affected by the 'hostile environment.
