[Text on screen]: Millions of women have joined mass protests for their rights.

Huge battles for equality have been won but there is still so much to do.

How far have we really come?

Throughout history women have been oppressed, enslaved and given fewer rights than men.

In 1928 all women gained the right to vote in the UK. Thanks to campaigners like Emmeline Pankhurst.

In 1956 women teachers and civil servants were paid the same as men for the first time.

In 1975 The Sex Discrimination Act made it illegal to discriminate against women in the workplace.

But it took until 1991 for rape in marriage to be declared a crime.

There is still much more to be done.

Even today, women are paid 18% less than men.

Only 29% of MPs elected in 2015 were women.

In Northern Ireland, abortion is still denied for foetal abnormalities, rape and incest.

Women must have the right to make their own decisions about their bodies and consent.

Many women have fought and died on the road to equality.

Let's make a united stand for human rights.
