Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights - freedom of thought, conscience and religion.

Article 9 of the Human Rights Convention guarantees our right to hold certain beliefs.

This means we can follow our beliefs as long as they don’t hurt others.

It means we all have the right to peacefully demonstrate our faith.

It gives us the freedom to change our religion or beliefs.

Three key things that it does for us:

1. People can claim asylum to protect them from religious persecution (The MT case, 2010)
2. We can refuse to serve in the military because of our beliefs. (The Bayatyan case, 2011)
3. We have the right to worship in public and in private(The Eweida case, 2012)
