Over the last few years, we have had the honour of commissioning and publishing human rights stories from across the UK.
This has led us to commission stories on a range of human rights issues including hair discrimination, child poverty, wrongful convictions, and rape trials to name a few.
We are pleased to announce that the Inspired Source series will now be open for pitches until 30th July. Please note that we are only able to commission a handful of pitches and commissions will be made on a rolling basis. EachOther is a small charity and is able to offer £125 per article.
What we are looking for:
We’re looking for individuals with lived experience of a human rights related story/issue to write about their story, with a UK lens.
We launched The Inspired Source series as a pilot program in 2020. It was part of our work to amplify voices that are underrepresented in the media and marginalised by society.
This marginalisation could be due to multiple factors, including – but not limited to – an individual’s gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, geography or disability. The series has become an integral part of EachOther’s work.
We are particularly interested to receive pitches from individuals with lived experience in the following areas, but please do apply if your pitch doesn’t fall into these categories:
- The far right
- Protest
- Disability and access to services
- Housing
- Discrimination
- Education
Please have a look at previous examples to ensure your idea has not previously been covered.
We encourage pitches from those with lived experience of a human rights related issue/story, and pitches from individuals who have not previously been published.
Pitching guidelines:
The Inspired Source series is only open to individuals. If you are part of a group or movement, please ensure that only one or two individuals apply to write or record one story. We are open to joint pitches with two writers. If you are applying as a duo, please include both names in your pitch.
Keep the pitch to less than 300 words – two to three paragraphs – which should take us through:
- What is the human rights issue in the UK that you intend to write about?
- What is your idea for addressing it?
- What evidence will you draw upon in your piece?
- Why are you the person to write about this issue?
In the subject line of the email, please include the words: “Pitch: Inspired Source”. Please send your ideas to info@eachother.org.uk, with the subject: Inspired Source Series Pitch.
We are a small team, so please allow two weeks before following up. Unfortunately, we do have a restricted budget for this series and will only be able to commission a handful of applicants.
