The author of the Harry Potter books, J. K. Rowling, is herself a strong supporter of human rights. In January 2016, it was announced that J. K. Rowling had been awarded a prestigious human rights award from literary group Pen America. The award honours Rowling’s contribution to free expression and her support for various charities including Lumos, which works to reconnect children in institutional care with life within a family.
