Professor Dimitrios Giannoulopoulos holds the Inaugural Chair in Law, and is the Head of the Department of Law, at Goldsmiths, University of London. He is a Bencher (Academic) of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple and has internationally leading expertise in how human rights norms are applied in criminal justice systems across the world. Through his public engagement work, which enabled him to connect with over 2,500 16-18 year old students in schools since launching the ‘Knowing Our Rights’ research project in 2017, Dimitrios has highlighted the positive impact of the European Convention on Human Rights in UK law and championed adherence to it. His passion for human rights and social justice has underpinned the creation of the Department of Law at Goldsmiths in 2019 with its distinctive emphasis on international human rights, the rule of law and law as a force for good and change.
