EachOther is delighted to announce the appointment of Anita Senaratna as its first full-time Social Media Coordinator.
Originally from Sydney, Australia, Anita brings eight years of media experience to the role, having previously worked for the BBC, MSN (Microsoft) and the NSW Department of Education.
Anita relocated to the UK in early 2021 to take up an opportunity with the BBC as an online content producer, having previously worked on the BBC’s homepage team in Sydney. She was previously responsible for the curation of Headroom and Our Planet Now, the BBC’s dedicated mental health and climate change content hubs.
She has also worked as a freelance writer and journalist covering local news, politics, tech and the arts. One of her career highlights so far has been getting published in HuffPost. Outside of work, she is a stand-up comedian and has performed at venues across the UK.
Anita has always cared deeply about social justice and it has been a key motivator in any work she takes on.
“I love taking complex subjects and finding ways to tell those stories creatively in a way that engages people. Writing is what I enjoy most but I’ve experimented with film, radio and visual arts as well. Often powerful institutions will make things deliberately complex in order to maintain the status quo and I believe people have the right to understand issues that directly affect them,” said Anita.
On her role with EachOther, she said:
“I’m so proud to be a part of the amazing work that EachOther are doing in making important human rights issues accessible to the average person. I’m someone who’s quite vocal about issues I care about on my personal social media accounts so getting paid to do that is basically the dream!”
Anita started with the charity in April 2022. You can follow her on Twitter at @anitasenaratna.
