We are proud to announce the launch of our human rights programme for storytellers at Goldsmiths University, London. The Knowing Your Rights: Storytellers Programme is a ground-breaking and unique opportunity for students and staff, to produce multi-media work that addresses human rights issues in the UK.
Under the Knowing Our Rights: Storytellers programme, students will have the opportunity to pitch an idea and be given editorial support in order to see their work be published by an award winning human rights charity. This innovative programme will support individuals and groups to produce thoughtful and dynamic work that addresses and raises awareness for human rights issues in the UK.
Launched in 2019, Goldsmiths’ Department of Law is already widely recognised as a centre of excellence that aims to reconceptualise legal education, encompassing immersive and experiential learning as well as engaging with key social issues.
The Law Department has itself invested energy in disseminating research and knowledge on human rights, including through its Knowing Our Rights initiative, with an emphasis on young people in secondary schools in London and other parts of the UK. Its faculty includes some of the most prominent human rights thinkers and legal practitioners in the country.
About the programme:
Under the Knowing Our Rights: Storytellers programme, students will pitch an idea (short or long form) and be given editorial support in order to see their work be published by an award winning human rights charity. This innovative programme will support you to produce thoughtful and dynamic work that addresses and raises awareness for human rights issues in the UK.
Eligibility: Are you a student enrolled in the following courses or clinics? If so, we would love to hear from you.
Students taking the following Clinics will be given the opportunity to work on this project under the supervision of the Clinic leader: The Human Rights Law & Clinic (with Dr Aristi Volou), The Immigration Clinic (with Marta Minetti), The Counter-Terrorism & Human Rights Clinic (with Clive Stafford-Smith OBE).
How to apply:
To apply for the programme please summarise a human rights case/issue in 150 words. All summaries should be sent to EachOther’s Editor Emma Guy, with the subject heading: Knowing Our Rights: The Storytellers programme.
If you are applying as part of a group, please nominate one person to send in one pitch with the names of group members provided in the email. Applications will be taken on a rolling basis. Longform/group project work will be considered alongside guidance from your module tutors and open to a format of your choice including, written, video and audio.
