Today, 10 December, is Human Rights Day 2019 – and what better day to unveil our new name and revamped website.
We are really proud of how RightsInfo has grown and changed since we started back in 2015. In a short space of time we have developed a website which is viewed more than a million times a year, published exclusive stories and produced award-nominated films and animations.
But if we’ve learned anything from recent years, it’s that it’s not enough to just distribute information. The key is we need to also make the information accessible by telling the stories that connect us to one another. We felt this was the right time to step in that direction – and change our name to reflect this journey.
It feels as if people are paying less and less attention to what they have in common with each other. Instead, we see difference and division everywhere we look. From TV headlines to front page news, it is often “us” versus “them”.

But by listening to and empathising with each other, we will always find similarities. The essential message of human rights is that more connects than divides us, and although we are superficially different, each of us has an essential humanity which deserves respect and dignity. If we’re going to be able to build a world with the tools that human rights give us, we’ll need to do more to understand, connect and protect each other.
That is EachOther’s mission – to tell the human rights stories that connect us with each other. And, encouragingly, the results of an exclusive poll we published today reveal that 88% of the UK public thinks “effective” human rights should protect everyone.
We will still be producing up-to-date human rights news and video, but also putting more focus on human stories particularly involving marginalised groups who don’t get enough mainstream coverage, exclusive research, short documentaries, powerful illustrations, as well as comment and analysis from experts and those directly affected by an issue.
In under five years we have built an amazing community of people who want human rights to be understood and achieved. As EachOther, will continue this project and we hope you will join us too.
